Donating Office Furniture Funds Mission

“We take that merchandise in, that donated product, we turn around and turn it into cash, and then the cash funds the mission, and that helps us build the homes,” says Will Kuebler, ReStore Director for Habitat for Humanity. Kuebler says the ReStore recently received a donation of office furniture and equipment, which allows starting companies to purchase these items at a lower cost and keeps them out of landfills.

-- We take that merchandise in, that donated product, we turn around, turn it into cash and then the cash funds the mission and that helps us build the homes.

I'm Will Kuebler, I'm the ReStore director for Habitat for Humanity. What we do is that, we will send a truck out for larger items.

So, for instance, just recently we obtained a variety of items such as desks, filing cabinets, and then in turn what winds up happening is we have individuals come in here, maybe some of them are just starting an office and they decide, well, you know, going to the regular retail operation to buy a desk or a filing cabinet is just a little out of their price range. So, they can come over here and purchase that desk at a fraction of the cost.

Another benefit, by donating to Habitat for Humanity, it diverts a lot of these items that would traditionally be discarded and wind up in the landfill and we can save our resources.

- Commerce Bank has had a long time relationship with the Habitat ReStore, over 10 years, and we have a great relationship there with the staff and crew, they've always been very friendly and have done things the right way. We're confident that when we donate our supplies, our furniture to the ReStore, that it's going to a good place and it's going to benefit the organization.

The Habitat ReStore makes it easy for the bank to give furniture away. It is more trouble for us to try to sell it than to give it to Habitat ReStore because we know it's going to a good place and they're able to then pass it on to others where it's going to benefit the community in a way that they can use it and benefits Habitat at the same time.
