Video Transcription: I ran out of coffee this morning. Not sure why when all I have to do is say things like, Alexa, would you order me a pound of coffee? And within 24 to 48 hours, it's at my doorstep or even better yet, I could set up an automatic delivery service with my local coffee company. Clearly I need to change my processes at home.

This got me to thinking. What are you doing to make sure that your employees have the tools and the processes in place to maximize their performance? Here are three easy ways to look at your work environment and take a look for processes and system improvements.

A quick first step is to look at ergonomic design of your workspaces. Something as simple as a new chair, a standing desk or a cushioned floor mat can lead to improved employee performance as well as employee satisfaction.

Second, look for physical barriers that may be getting in the way of employee productivity. Anything that you have to step around, bump into or step over is a barrier. Find more effective layouts for the necessary items and get rid of the rest.

Third, and this is a big one, take a look at the amount of interruptions that plague you everyday. Did you know it takes an average of 25 minutes to return to an original task after an interruption. Even after just a 2.8 second interruption, subjects in a study doubled their error rates. Be the example for your team that interruptions are not okay and think before you do the interrupting. Workers who are frequently interrupted report a 9% higher exhaustion rate. Do simple things like turning off those automatic email notifications and set a specific time to check your messages.
