The Start of Springfield Business Journal

Defining Moments

On the eve of her retirement, Dianne Elizabeth Osis, Founder of Springfield Business Journal talks about starting SBJ 37 years ago. She was an English and journalism teacher and decided to start her own paper when she saw that there were no business to business journals in the region. To fill that gap, she created the first business journal in the state of Missouri. She admits she had to learn on the fly but that Springfield has been very kind to her and the journal by allowing the freedom to do so. She describes her awe at seeing the first issue and how far the journal has come since then. She also talks about her drive to make each issue better than the last and the process that continues today to make that happen.
